Art Auction with artist Daniela Fernandez @ Web in Travel 2016

Opening bid S$1,200..

Beautiful Daniela Fernandez with her enchanting painting

It took Daniela 12 hours to create an art piece fit for auction to the highest bidder, with proceeds to be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore.

The canvas is an adventure of scenarios, with each portion depicting a different destination of the world, based on the wish list garnered from WIT's day 1 audience.  As members of the audience expressed their wish list for their favored travel destination (..a green Jaipur; forest cover for the roof structures of the Sydney Opera House; fly-past over the Great Wall of China, etc.), Daniela sketched out their ideals, which was then projected onto the canvas using the wondrous colors of acrylic.

Auction off at S$4,200.. to Melissa Yang of @Tujia.

Virtual Reality Tours

Thanks to Finland booth @ ITB Asia 2016, Circos @ WIT Asia 2016, we were able to test virtual tours and tools using various Virtual Reality gears.

The glory of the Northern Lights, vastness of Lhasa plains, cozyness of fire in the snow, are almost real with the sounds on.  If they could add the smells of travels, that would be the ultimate.

Once VR technology has advanced in resolution and content, we'd be able to experience the thrill of destination travel without leaving home — a boon to armchair travellers and the handicap.

Currently, the technology is mostly used to showcase selected slides, generally for marketing purposes or for gaming or digital painting and the likes.

Like the Oculus Rift headset, the gear is still rather bulky.

To enjoy 360 degrees views, users have to turn themselves physically.  Sitting on regular chairs, the turning is limited.  Standing, the physical turns may cause dizziness and the accompanying stumbles or falls.  Chairs that can swivel to accomodate the 360 degrees view of virtual reality gears are not mass marketed in a way to be affordable yet.
